Sewing Intensive Report from Wedding Dress Blue

What do you get when you combine four days, seventeen students and boxes of fabric?

A lot of work! A lot of fun! A lot of projects!

It is remarkable to see how they gain confidence and skill in so few days. Several plan to ask for sewing machines for Christmas.

And all send their thanks to my great friends who share the fabric that makes it possible. You are helping support the crafting creative arts in the next generation.

Spring Intensive: Day 4 from Wedding Dress Blue

Thursday was the last day. In the flurry of excitement I didn’t take as many pictures as I planned.

The students gained confidence in their sewing.

And had a consistent enough seam allowances to make a high precision project, like a mini wallet.

And go freestyle with their own ideas and create things like stuffed rubix cube.

A good time was had by all!

Thank you for your support and encouragement. The most common remark at the end was, “I need a sewing machine.”

Spring Intensive: Day 3 from Wedding Dress Blue

Today (Wednesday) was the day of many baskets. Creating something three dimensional, and strong enough to hold many other things, was amazing for the children.

And hard. And worth it. They took great pride in sharing their work.

Even the Principal and Vice Principal stopped by to see the progress. They were impressed by the effort, focus and patience shown by the students. You can see some rough seam allowances and hand stitching, but two days ago most of these children had never sewn a stitch. They have many works in progress and a few big goals for tomorrow. We ...

Sewing Intensive: Days 1 and 2 from Wedding Dress Blue

Sorry I didn’t get a post up yesterday specifically about Day ONE of the Sewing Intensive. It was a good, but long, day. The first 2-3 hours are always the hardest. More than half of the students have never touched a sewing machine before. They are excited. They are 11-14 years old.

But, we got them started and a lot of coasters and bookmarks were made. Unfortunately, I didn’t even think about pictures until after the students headed home.
